Testing task: Navigate to the previous option in a listbox popup

Describe how VoiceOver for macOS behaves when performing task "With focus on an option in the listbox popup, navigate backwards to the previous option."

Test instructions

  1. Restore default settings for VoiceOver for macOS. For help, read Configuring Screen Readers for Testing.
  2. Activate the "Open test page" button below, which opens the example to test in a new window and runs a script that expands the combobox, sets the combobox value to 'Alaska' and places focus on that option in the listbox popup.
  3. Simultaneously press Left Arrow and Right Arrow. If VoiceOver said 'quick nav on', press Left Arrow and Right Arrow again to turn it back off.
  4. With focus on an option in the listbox popup, navigate backwards to the previous option.
  5. Using the following commands, With focus on an option in the listbox popup, navigate backwards to the previous option.
    • Control+Option+Left Arrow
    • Up Arrow (quick nav off)

Success Criteria

To pass this test, VoiceOver for macOS needs to meet all the following assertions when each specified command is executed:

  1. State of the combobox (expanded) is conveyed
  2. Role of the popup ('listbox') is conveyed
  3. Name of the popup ('States') is conveyed
  4. Text of the focused option in the popup ('Alabama') is conveyed
  5. State of the focused option in the popup (selected) is conveyed
  6. Position of the focused option in the popup (1) is conveyed
  7. Number of options in the popup (56) is conveyed
